In 1955, Tom Cagwin, a graduate in Ornamental Horticulture from Cal Poly San Louis Obispo, teamed up with Dave Dorward, a Stanford Business Economics graduate, to establish Cagwin & Dorward. Their main objective was to prioritize customer satisfaction.
The new enterprise began as a landscape construction company and was incorporated in 1961. Cagwin & Dorward specializes in installing landscapes for high-end residential and commercial properties throughout Northern California.
In the late 1960s, we created the Landscape Maintenance Business Unit to support construction installation projects. Today, it is our largest revenue center.
Our Tree Care Services Business Unit was established in 1999 to offer tree care services to both commercial and residential customers.
Cagwin & Dorward has become a well-established landscape service provider in Northern California, offering full-service solutions. Our headquarters are located in Petaluma, and we have 12 service locations (see list below) throughout the region. Our service area spans from Santa Rosa in the north to Monterey in the south and from Modesto to Sacramento in the east. See a state and county map below.
Tom Cagwin and Dave Dorward retired in the early 1990s, and the company has passed on to the second generation of ownership. We remain a privately owned company consisting of nine owners
